“Scooter in the Sticks” is an exhibition of photographs reflecting experiences, discoveries and revelations while riding a Vespa scooter. Those interested in the central Pennsylvania landscape will appreciate the images. And for those who ride, or dream of riding a motorcycle or scooter, the show will add fuel to those fires.
Riding can be more than a recreational activity. For photographer Steve Williams, it has opened a door for greater appreciation of the world around him through a simple, quiet, moving meditation on two wheels.
Williams has been a photographer for most of his adult life. In addition to teaching photography at Penn State, he’s worked as a staff photographer, video producer and magazine editor in the College of Agricultural Sciences. And for the past 13 years he’s been the author of the blog Scooter in the Sticks. That project has taken him over 50 thousand miles on his Vespa and generated many of the photographs for the show as well as nurturing the slow travel approach that flows through the collection of images on display.
