Art Alliance Gallery Downtown presents its inaugural exhibition Abstract Beginnings, a group show of eight Centre County artists that explores our natural surroundings and the essence of materials in nonrepresentational and innovative ways.
Abstraction is the existence of thought without the necessity of physical or concrete depiction. We distinguish the world around us through the recognition of shapes, colors, and textures, which can then be translated into feeling and action. In many ways, abstraction is the beginning stage in which our perspectives are shaped and cultivated. The exhibition Abstract Beginnings invites us to view the world through such a lens, investigating our environment and the nature of the material world with a variety of artistic media.
With the opening of our new location in Downtown State College, the Art Alliance of Central PA is excited to bring together the work of Centre County artists in order to respond to the themes, ideas, and aesthetics of our time. The study of plants, animals, and people has filled my sketchbooks and studio shelves for many years.
My abstract drawings express my interest in visually warping the flat surface and creating the sensation of energy fields.
How we each mirror the world around us intrigues me. How do we relate?
I knew I was an artist at a very early age because of the way I felt when I drew or painted.
Susan Smith Graham is a local artist specializing in acrylic painting.
My artwork is about the world of the mind, the world of science, and of course, the world of art.
