Artist Statement

How we each mirror the world around us intrigues me.  How do we relate?

I explore this question in paint and poetry.  Each of these avenues provides me with a perspective of understanding.  First, I paint intuitively where I half-stand in my studio and half-sail in the sky of myself.  I don’t know what I’m doing or why.  I just trust my creative process and know I will have the insight afterwards.  To further facilitate my inquiry, I write.  Attempting to apply words to the completed painting clarifies even more its meaning for me.  I’m interested in capturing the magnificence of our surroundings and the significance of our role, individually and collectively, within this immensity.  How do we relate, really?

Auguries of Innocence

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour…
