The Art Alliance of Central PA is having a photography show which will be shown at the Art Alliance Gallery Downtown in State College in February 2018.

Entry Process and Fee

Each artist can submit one piece. Entry forms with fee are now being accepted. The absolute last date to enter is Wednesday, January 24 by 12pm (noon). Entry fees are non-refundable and may be paid by check, credit card, or online. If fee is paid online, an entry form must also be submitted either by mail or email —

Entry Fee: $30 Members; $40 Non-members

Eligible Work

Photographs that have not received awards in previous Art Alliance shows are eligible.

All submissions should be suitable for public viewing and prepared for hanging. All work must be framed and securely wired and ready to hang. Poorly framed work, unframed work, or partial frames will not be accepted. Dimension, including frame, may not exceed 30 inches in either direction.

The chair reserves the right to reject entries that do not meet these requirements and will have the final decision on how the work is hung.


There will be cash prizes.


The Art Alliance is not responsible for loss of or damage to your artwork. Entry of work indicates acceptance of disclaimer.

Sales and Conditions

Photographs may be for sale. The Art Alliance will charge a commission of 20% of the selling price for work sold at the show.


This show will be held at the Art Alliance Gallery Downtown, 123 S. Fraser Street, State College, PA 16801.

Show Dates and Hours

The exhibit opens Friday, February 2 and continues through Sunday, February 25. Gallery hours are Wednesdays & Saturdays 12-6pm, Thursdays & Fridays 12-8pm, Sundays 12-4pm.

Sitting Assignments

As a participating artist, you must sign up to sit at the show in order for the gallery to be open. If your artwork is selected by the juror, you will receive an email with a link to sign up for timeslots to sit at the gallery. If you can not sit at the show, you must make alternative arrangements.


The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 2 from 5–8pm. Artists are asked to bring either food or wine to share. If preferred, a $5 contribution to help cover reception expenses may be paid along with the entry fee. Prize winners will be announced at this time.

Dropping Off and Retrieving Work

Artists must deliver their work to the Art Alliance Gallery Downtown on Sunday, January 28 between 4–6pm. Please have labels completed and attached (they are included on the reverse side of this page).

All artwork must be retrieved at the Gallery Downtown on Sunday, February 25, between 4 and 6pm. We have no additional storage space so please respect the pick-up date.

Additional Space for Matted Work

Participating artists may bring unframed, matted, priced photos labeled with the artist’s name, to be included in a For Sale bin (can be additional images or same as entered). All sales are subject to a 20% commission.

About the curators

Linda Hale is an amateur enthusiast photographer with a special interest in portraiture. She works in her small home studio with subjects to portray moods and emotions that might otherwise be hidden or kept private. Her images have been recognized in various printed and online photographic publications. She will be featured in the June 2018 Black and White magazine with a collection of her portraits of women with cancer.

R Thomas Berner is a freelance writer and photographer whose work appears in State College Magazine. Known for his two self-published books about barns in Pennsylvania, he is now working on a book about churches in Centre County and a project titled “Anonymous Eyes,” which will have an international flavor.
