I discovered my love for block printmaking through the art of papercutting. I’ve always been drawn to thinking through positive and negative space, one cut at a time. Using shape and line as the primary tool for visual communication, instead of layer and color, has caught my attention as a compelling way to create.
This series of prints weaves through my most recent season of life transition and waiting. I see each piece as one step in discovery and experimentation as I seek to understand what it means to form a context for motivated creating. What I love about printmaking is that it forces me to be patient. While I see impatience in my transition or in my waiting, carving into the block brings me back to the joy of the process and a satisfaction with what is instead of what could be.
